About Single Ply

Conklin Single Ply is a TPO type roofing system. TPO stands for Thermoplastic Olefin. In simple terms, TPO Single-Ply seams are welded together with heat creating a permanent seam. Single-ply can be installed as a new roofing system or as a re-roof option. There are two fastening options with Single Ply. Mechanically fastened; this method uses fasteners such as screws with large washers to attach the Single Ply to the roof surface. These screws are covered and are NOT exposed. Chemically Bonded; with this method, we apply an adhesive between the roof and the Single Ply. This adhesive creates an even consistent bond resisting high wind very well.

Single Ply is a well-recognized roofing system that has been around for many years. It is well-liked by many with a lower cost per square foot than some other options. Call Elite Commercial Roofing for a quote on a Single-Ply roofing system.

How its done

Step 1: Surface Prep

Surface preparation for Single Ply varies based on which fastening system we are using. For mechanical fastening, we will thoroughly inspect the roof. We look for anything that might puncture or compromise the membrane. Any dirt or debris is also removed. Chemically bonded is the same, except we have to be extra careful to watch for anything that will prevent the adhesive from bonding to the roof surface.

Step 2: Fasteners

Single Ply is fastened to the roof using mechanical fasteners or chemically bonded with adhesives. This step is crucial because the fastening system is what keeps your roof from blowing away in the wind. We make a great effort to ensure that every roof we install is done right the first time.

Step 3: Seam Welding

On a Single Ply TPO roof, every seam is heat-welded using a hot air seam welder. TPO stands for Thermoplastic Olefin. TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) is a material that quickly melts together, forming a permanent bond between the two pieces. TPO heat-welded seams are robust and completely impervious to moisture.

Step 4: Primer & Top Coat

Now for the final part. All vents and HVAC units are flashed around as well as roof edges and steps. Flashing is the final detailing part of a roof. We take extra care when flashing your roof to avoid the chance of leaks later on. Did you know that many roof leaks originate from a poor flashing job?

Common Questions & Answers

Will I Save Money on Utilities?

Great question; most if not nearly all building owners see significantly lower heating and cooling bills after installing a White Conklin Roof. Lower energy consumption comes in two primary ways. #1, Conklin white roofs reflect up to 85% of the radiant heat from the sun. Less heat absorbed means airconditioning units cycle less frequently, using less energy. #2 Our foam roofing system offers both reflectivity and much-improved insulation. This seamless insulation system eliminates most of the typical energy leaks present in standard insulation systems.

How Can Your System Last So Much Longer?

Conklin Roofing Systems are vastly different from the competition. Every roof we install is the result of multiple products, each with a particular job. Every area exposed to extra wear and tear or stress has additional reinforcement added to avoid premature failure. Our roofing systems consistently last longer because of one thing; they are a complete system with multiple products working together to achieve the best result.

Can We Keep Using the Building While the Roof is Being Installed?

Yes, you will be able to keep using the building while we restore your roof. Elite Commercial Roofing will restore your roof without exposing the inside of the building*. Most building owners experience little to no interruption.

*If your roof is so severely damaged that a full or partial tear-off is required, we will work with you to minimize the impact as much as possible.

What About Hail?

Can a Conklin Roof handle a hail storm? Yes, they can; many of our roofing systems have carry a class 4 hail rating. Hail ratings are based on a scale of 1-4, with 4 being the highest class. Ask us about which Roofing System would be the best for you.
